Leading You Back Homean exhibition about Nanjing Massacre containing virtual scenes, a book, and a narrator

All content was created as part of the Degree Project for graduation show in Graphic Design at Rhode Island School of Design.

Data collected from《南京大屠杀史料集》and other official sources.
Virtual scene created using different sources of Unreal Engine 5 assets.
Parts of the dialogues are inspired by Honkai: Star Rail.

Again, I cannot speak on behalf of the victims and I don’t want people to treat this project as an artwork or design. I approached this project simply as someone rooted from Nanjing who, after realizing how little this tragedy was known in the Western world around me, felt a need to make this history visible as much as I can.

Rather than focusing on direct representations of pain and suffering, I chose to construct the work through a fragmented narrative. I wanted viewers to encounter pieces of historical material and gradually assemble the history for themselves from what I had done my best to preserve.

More importantly, I did not want Nanjing to be understood only through its suffering. I hoped viewers could see that my people are not defined by tragedy alone. They endured profound loss, yet continued to live, rebuild, and grow toward the light.
